Through My Window
The square exterior design of my work mirrors the "window" from where I used to gaze and imagine the outside world as a child. I was born in a city therefore, I had never had the chance to experience the vast wilderness, beyond what a city offers, that was beautiful yet mysterious and frightening. The window also represents my dream and desire to explore the unknown world like that of so many Korean women who grew up in a traditional Confucian culture, including myself. My work reflects my past – where I came from, to the hopes for my future – where I will be going. From the inside, I boldly throw open the window and freely play an active role as a creative and contemporary person."나의 창으로" 시리즈는 내가 어릴적 호기심과 동경으로 바라보던 ‘창’ 밖의 세상에 대한 이야기 이다. 한국의 가부장제도에서 자란 한 어린 여자 아이에게 창 밖의 세상은 도전 하고 싶은 미지의 세계이기도 했지만 알수 없는 두려움 그 자체 이기도 했다. 나의 작업에서 보자기의 사각의 형태는 ‘창’으로 비유 되고 있다. 또한 바느질로하는 다이나믹하고 다양한 색의 조합과 얇은 실크 위에 페인팅으로 하는 추상적 표현은 무의식의 세계 안에 존재 하는 공간이나 때로는 머리 속에 잔상으로 남아 있는 기억의 일부를 암시 한다.
