Wearable
Bojagis symbolizes feeling of my roots, where I came from. The Korean women’s
dress top, “Jeogori,” with rounded shape sleeves symbolizes Korean women,
especially, my mother, who occupied her time with domestic work in her entire
life for her family, especially for her children. They also, evoke both traditional Korean women costume called
“Han-bok” and traditional Korean patchwork wrapping cloth originating from the
14th century called “bojagi.” It is mostly sewn by hand and created without
pre-existing pattern or plan. The
artworks bring together dual identities of being Korean and being a woman who
is living in a modern society.
